The Literacy & Learning Center believes that the seeds of lifelong success are planted the moment a child first opens a book. Staff are thrilled to announce a monumental milestone in the mission to foster early literacy: 3,010 children in Macon County have now graduated from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library (DPIL) through the Center's program.
The Imagination Library is a transformative book-gifting program that mails free, high-quality, age-appropriate books to children from birth through age five. For many families in our community, these monthly deliveries are more than just mail; they are the building blocks of a home library and a dedicated catalyst for reading time between parents and children.
The Power of 3,010
Reaching over 3,000 graduates represents a significant investment in the future of Macon County. When a child graduates from the program upon turning five, they may have received up to 60 books, specifically chosen to spark their curiosity and prepare them for the transition to Kindergarten.
Research consistently shows that children who grow up with books in the home have higher literacy rates, larger vocabularies, and a smoother start to their academic careers. By hitting this milestone, TL&LC, as the local Macon County affiliate, has helped ensure that thousands of the community’s youngest neighbors are entering school with the tools they need to thrive.
A Community Effort.
This achievement belongs to the entire community. From the parents who prioritize reading every night to the donors and volunteers who sustain the local chapter, your support makes these 3,010 success stories possible. Every book delivered is a step toward closing the literacy gap and empowering the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and creators.
As The Literacy and Learning Center celebrates these 3,010 graduates, staff eyes are already on the next thousand. Literacy is a journey that begins with a single page, and thanks to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and the support of the community, that journey starts on the right foot for every child.
