A vibrant celebration of early childhood achievement filled the room at The Literacy & Learning Center as the Pre-K program hosted its annual music performance and graduation ceremony for rising kindergarteners. Around 50 guests gathered to support The Center’s youngest learners, creating a packed house of enthusiastic supporters. In attendance were proud families, each with multiple family members cheering them on, as well as members of the TL&LC Board of Directors and representatives from the Bel Canto, who generously provided a grant for the music portion of the Pre-K program.
A Year of Song and Celebration
The morning kicked off with a special music program led by Ms. Angie, the Center's weekly music instructor. The performance featured a joyful collection of songs that the children spent the entire school year mastering. Following the musical showcase was the formal graduation processional. The graduating students donned traditional caps and gowns, each adorned with a custom sash reading “Preschool Graduate,” marking the significance of their first major academic milestone.
Honoring Top Readers
A highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of the program's top three readers, determined by the sheer volume of books read to them at home and carefully journaled by their parents since January. Students Arina, Christopher, and Ember took home the top honors. Together, this dedicated trio devoured more than 400 books since January of this year, demonstrating the powerful impact of family literacy initiatives.
Ready for Kindergarten
To close the celebration, each student transitioning to elementary school in the fall was called forward to receive an official graduation certificate. Thanks to the structured, playful, and supportive environment provided by The Literacy & Learning Center’s Pre-K curriculum, these students are entering the next phase of their educational journeys with immense confidence. Parents are pleased that the children are not only incredibly excited about attending kindergarten but are also exceptionally well-prepared for the academic and social-emotional steps ahead. Carolyn Middlebrooks, Pre-K Director, exclaimed, “I’m just so proud of them all for how far they have come this year.”
