As the school year comes to a close, The Literacy & Learning Center is proud to celebrate the remarkable progress of its inaugural Pre-K class. Nearly half of these young learners are now ready to take the exciting next step—Kindergarten.
Throughout the year, students have shown significant development in vital social-emotional skills. From sharing materials and taking turns to practicing patience, these children have built a strong foundation for collaboration and positive peer interactions—key components for a successful transition to Kindergarten.
To offer families a meaningful look at their child’s journey, end-of-year report cards will provide insight across four essential areas of early childhood development:
Social-Emotional Development: Evaluates a child’s ability to follow directions, take responsibility for their belongings, clean up independently, and listen attentively.
Math Readiness: Assesses early numeracy skills such as counting, identifying and creating patterns, and sorting objects by various characteristics.
Language and Reading Readiness: Measures recognition of letters, awareness of letter sounds, and emerging pre-reading abilities.
Fine Motor Skills: Focuses on the development of precise hand movements and the proper use of tools like pencils and scissors.
These comprehensive evaluations will highlight each child’s readiness for Kindergarten while also identifying areas where additional growth can be nurtured.
Students who are not yet age-eligible for Kindergarten will return to The Center’s Pre-K program next year, gaining another year of meaningful preparation in a supportive, enriching environment.
